New media art is a choreography between the body and technology

Produced by the Onstead Institute and Tamarind Studios, this short film offers an intimate look at artist Liss LaFleur’s practice and approach to new media art. Emphasizing adaptability and accessibility, LaFleur explores how artworks transform through process, installation, and audience interaction.

The video also introduces The Queer Birth Project, an interdisciplinary, research-based artwork reflecting on LGBTQ+ childbirth and family formation in the United States. Developed in collaboration with sociologist Katherine Sobering, the project re-envisions Judy Chicago’s Birth Project (1980–85) through a contemporary, post-Roe lens—advocating for reproductive justice, queer kinship, and radically inclusive futures of care and belonging.
