Originating deep in the heart of Texas, ONE WAY HOME is a powerful, intimate, and tender exploration into the nation’s only travel program for individuals dying from AIDS and their families. Originating in the ’90s, Home for the Holidays was formed by gay Air Force veteran Rodd Gray, AKA the iconic female impersonator Patti Le Plae Safe in Dallas, TX as a fundraising event to purchase one way plane tickets for AIDS infected individuals as a final gift. Now approaching it’s 25th year, a devoted community of Charity Queens led by Patti continue to raise the necessary funds to ensure that no one dies alone.
This transmedia documentary project chronicles the history of this community through the archival materials, drag queens, and stories of current travelers’ and their families’ in a deeply personal and invariably political way to reconstruct the current face of AIDS.
