2016 LUMEN PRIZE
"Choosing from nearly 550 digitally-created works, entered from 35 countries globally, our International Selectors’ Committee has selected the 55 works that form the 2016 Lumen Prize Long List. Announced at London’s Electronic Visualisation and the Arts Conference on July 13th, these works will now be reviewed by our Jury Panel to determine the Shortlist - who will form the 2016/17 Global Tour - and the winners.
On August 10th, the vote for the People’s Choice Award will open, giving you the opportunity to choose your favorite work. The People’s Choice winner will be announced alongside the other winners on September 29th at our exhibition and prize-giving ceremony at Hackney House."
Now in it's fifth year, The Lumen Prize celebrates the very best art created digitally by artists around the world. Its goal is to celebrate the power and potential of this exciting genre through an annual competition and global tour of works selected by an eminent panel of judges.
Since its first show in London's Cork Street in January 2013, Lumen has staged nearly 30 shows and events in more than 10 capital cities around the world, including New York City, Shanghai, Athens, Amerstdam, Riga, Cardiff, and London. In partnership with its academic partners, Lumen advances the understanding of digital art thorugh seminars, artist talks, workshops and symposiums throughout its global tours.
Much more than a competition, Lumen's team works hard to provide a range of opportunities to past and present winners and shortlisted artists. These have included sales, commissions, solo shows as well as opportunities to appear at seminars and retrospectives. The Brazilian artist Fabiano Mixo, winner of the 2015 People's Choice Award expalins: "The Lumen Prize is a place where things come together - technology & art; research & practice; thinking & creation. It is definitely much more than just a showcase and competition."
