January - February 2016
Inspired by Mina Loy's 1914 text, "Aphorisms on Futurism," Tips is a homonym for the Future Feminist. Digitally engraved, Mina Loy's words, or tips, are individually laser cut into 667 acrylic fingernails. These are used as a performance tool, for one hour, to facilitate discourse between a mother and daughter both biologically and historically linked.
Mirroring the intent of the Futurists, LaFleur's video performance uses the act of deconstructing the text in order to open a space for new ideas, and as the artist states, "focus on the instability of memory and representation as a common thread that weaves together the analog/digital, and historic/futuristic divide".
Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display through February 13.
